One sky · different questions
What is a horoscope?
A horoscope begins with celestial positions for a particular moment and combines them with information about an individual—often a birth date, time, and place. The English word may mean the resulting personal chart, an interpretation of that chart, or a forecast based on it.
A shared calendar · a personal interpretation
A pañcāṅga and a horoscope answer different questions.
Describes shared calendar conditions for a place and date: for example, sunrise, tithi, vāra, lunar month, and calendar-timed observances.
Applies celestial information to an individual. Different astrological traditions may interpret character, relationships, life events, auspicious periods, or future possibilities.
